Hunter Wellingtons Glastonbury Festival Tips

Time to dig out those Hunter Wellingtons again, with the Festival season upon us you will need to make sure you pack the essentials.  A lot of magazines are full of festival guides, but those can sometimes be a bit impractical - all maxi dresses and sandals. Fine if you're off to a festival somewhere guaranteed to be hot and sunny, but if you're going to a UK festival, then rain, and consequently mud, are pretty much a given.

Etiquette:
  • Respect:  Respect yourself, respect your neighbours, respect the environment.  Take pictures, leave only footprints.
  • Possessions:  Things go missing- by your own stupidity or theft.  If you don't want to lose it, leave it at home.
  • Talk to your neighbors:  Scratch their backs and they'll challenge people who look like they're eyeing up your welly boots.

Clothes:
  • Wellies: To anyone who has been to Glastonbury, taking a set of Wellies (Hunter Wellingtons) is sound advice.  Even if the forecast is for sunny weather don't leave things to chance.  You don't want Trench Foot.
  • A hat: sunstroke is horrible and very easy to get when enjoying the moment.
  • Socks: Take more spare socks than you need.
  • Tops:  One long-sleeved top that you can wrap around your waist.  It gets chilly when you stop dancing at 6am.
Food:
  • Water:  Absolutely essential.
  • Dry fruit & nuts: Just like camping these are great for energy, vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fibre.
  • Biscuits:  Excellent stuff and great for late night munchies.
  • Remember they have food stalls, so you can pack less.
Essentials:
  • Bin bags:  Incredibly useful, from storing rubbish in to making a poncho.
  • Sunscreen:  This will save your skin from third degree burns.
  • Toilet rolls:  You want to wipe your bum, don't you?  You can never have too much.
  • Wet wipes:  Brilliant for a quick wash in the morning. Even if you not showering, your friends don't want to smell you.
  • Toothbrush:  Buy two and throw them away afterwards.
  • Torch:  Don't forget the spare batteries.  You will need to find your way back in the dark.
  • Padlock:  For your tent zip.  This should deter petty theft.
  • Mobile phone: Turn all settings down.  During the day wrap it up and store in a deep pocket to save juice.
Camping:
  • Flag: Why you ask, taking a large flag will help you to identify your campsite.  Nothing worse than trying to locate your tent that 1,000 other people have.
  • Camping location: Water runs downhill and collects at the bottom.  Paths are close to drunk people and Toilets smell, so think before you set up.
  • Money:  Keep it with you at all times!
  • Cold: Jo Banana's Blanket Stall sells good blankets for as little as £5.
  • Tent and Sleeping Bag:  Check them for holes before you go!  Make sure you have enough tent pegs too.
  • Hammer/Mallet:  How else are you going to put your tent pegs in.  I have known people to have forgot, but a kind neighbor was there to help.
Glastonbury tips:
Want to see the dawn through, the Stone Circle is the place.

Looking to chill out, explore, or discover new things The Green Fields, Lost Vagueness Fields, Healing Fields and the Family areas are all great places to try.

Hunter Wellingtons for Dad

I'm entering this Hunter boot competition for my dad, who goes through a few pairs of wellies a year. My family live on a small holding in Carmarthenshire, South Wales, where we are flooded in around 20 times a year. My Dad (Mick), bless him is out all weathers in his welly boots! I have attached a photo of my dad, braving the floods, and also one of my 'lane' flooded.

Wellies, My Wellies

Wellies, Wellies, all in muck

wet and dry just like a duck.

Red ones, green ones, yellow and blue,

hose them off, they look like new!

In my garden, among Peonies and Posies,

happy am I, especially my toesies.

Tell me, please tell me, just give me one clue;

is there anything you can't do,

better than a shoe?

We climb and we splash and we kick and we crunch;

we work and we play and skip to make brunch-

We're high and we're low, we're fast, we're slow;

we lie amidst things that grow and glow.

Down by the creek, so dewy and sleek,

your grips and your buckles look very unique.

Oh, my Wellingtons... how do you do it?

There's a Dolce ad, and you're right next to it!

You do have style, you must admit, feats of strength, such depth and grit!

Paisley, polka dots, plaid and plain,

Fearlessly, standing tall, against wind, snow, and rain!

Impermeable, irresistible, get up and go;

Wellies, my Wellies, I do love you so!

An Ode to Hunter Wellingtons

I really do love Hunters.
Their Wellies are simply the best.
Perfect for splashing in puddles.
To get things off you chest.

I have a pair of Green ones.
Which make me look quite posh.
I'd love another brighter pair.
Just simply don't have the dosh.

Having been a little bit poorly.
My daily walk is my fave.
I lose myself in the countryside.
And try to remain strong and brave.

So another pair of Hunters.
Would beat the winter blues.
And I'll be twitter charm personified.
If you do, indeed, me choose.
